There’s another Rooster in town, he has just been unveiled and will be living on Trafalgar Square’s fourth plinth!
What’s the Fourth Plinth Hahn/Cock Cockerel about?
For the last 7 years, the fourth plinth has entertained a selection of the worlds most innovative artwork. Various sculptures, David Beckham in wax and even an interactive project involving 2000 people have popped up onto the plinth.
The most recent piece to hit the fourth plinth is the unashamedly bold Hahn/Cock sculpture by Katharina Fritsch. The gallant Cockerel stands 4.7m tall and is constructed purely of fibreglass. It definitely makes it’s mark in Trafalgar Square, with many calling this a marmite moment – the public either love it or hate it.
The artist, in an interview with the Guardian explained her inspiration… “As a German woman, when I first came to London, the area around Trafalgar Square seemed to be very much focusing on men – especially with fashion, with Jermyn Street. You have all these dandies, all these businessmen in their suits, who have to be powerful and successful. And they are a little bit posing like cockerels.”
The Roosterbank verdict on Hahn/Cock
There’s loads of love in the office for the blue cockerel, so it gets a huge thumbs up from the Roosterbank team. It’s bold, it’s bright and great fun. However, there is one modification that we all agreed on, drop the deep matte blue for fresh Roosterbank Red and you’re onto a winner.
